Addressing the Myth that Stomach Acid Renders Drinking Alkaline Water Useless

Posted: June 18, 2015 by Christina Chambers

The dangers of fluoride in drinking waterOne of the common myths and objections we hear is that drinking ionized alkaline water can’t possibly affect the alkalinity of the body since our stomach acid will destroy any alkaline substance ingested.

What people need to understand is that there is no hydrochloric acid pouch in our body, and the stomach wall makes sodium bicarbonate to alkalize our food not to digest it. HCL is only produced when we eat or drink acid-forming foods and drinks and is balanced in equal proportion by sodium bicarbonate production. When we consume alkaline forming foods and drink alkaline ionized water, the body does not need the sodium bicarbonate production and thus the HCL production is not required either.

People also mistakingly assume that when we drink ionized alkaline water we are trying to impact the alkalinity of the blood, which must remain at a very precise pH in order to live. In actuality, drinking ionized alkaline water can affect the alkalinity of our intracellular fluids and detox on a cellular level. It is not our goal to mess with the pH of the blood but rather to give the body the bioavailable alkaline minerals it requires to balance the blood pH naturally without having to steal from other places in the body such as the bones, teeth and eyes.

However, in one 2014 study titled Hydrogen-rich water affected blood alkalinity in physically active men, 26 men were given 2 liters of hydrogen-rich (alkaline) water to drink for 14 days while another 26 men were given a placebo (tap water). The results of this double blind randomized study were that
the intake of HRW significantly increased fasting arterial blood pH by 0.04 and postexercise pH by 0.o7 which suggests that drinking alkaline water can have a positive impact on the blood and that stomach acid does not destroy the alkalinity of the water.

3 Scientific Studies on Ionized Water’s Effect on Diabetes

Posted: June 3, 2015 by Christina Chambers

diabetes217According to the American Diabetes Association, 29.1 million Americans had diabetes as of 2012.Due to the existing link between oxidative stress and diabetes and the fact that hydrogen has been shown to reduce oxidative stress, studies have been conducted on ionized alkaline water’s effect on diabetes. Below we share the results of three of these studies.1. In a 2006 study titled Anti-diabetic effects of electrolyzed reduced water in streptozotocin-induced and genetic diabetic mice, researchers examined the possible anti-diabetic effect of ERW in two different diabetic animal models. The genetically diabetic mouse strain C57BL/6J-db/db (db/db) and streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mouse were used as insulin deficient type 1 and insulin resistant type 2 animal model, respectively. ERW, provided as a drinking water, significantly reduced the blood glucose concentration and improved glucose tolerance in both animal models. Click here for the study

2. Then in 2008, Japanese researchers published a human study titled Supplementation of hydrogen-rich water improves lipid and glucose metabolism in patients with type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance. They performed a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study in 30 patients with T2DM controlled by diet and exercise therapy and 6 patients with IGT. The patients consumed either 900 mL/d of hydrogen-rich pure water or 900 mL of placebo pure water for 8 weeks, with a 12-week washout period. Their results suggested that supplementation with hydrogen-rich water may have a beneficial role in prevention of T2DM and insulin resistance. Click here for the study

3. Finally in 2010, researchers conducted a study titled  Suppressive effects of electrolyzed reduced water on alloxan-induced apoptosis and type 1 diabetes mellitus. They concluded that electrolyzed reduced water prevented alloxaninduced DNA fragmentation and the production of cells in sub-G1 phase in HIT-T15 pancreatic b-cells. Blood glucose levels in alloxan-induced type 1 diabetes model mice were also significantly suppressed by feeding the mice with electrolyzed reduced water. These results suggest that electrolyzed reduced water can prevent apoptosis of pancreatic b-cells and the development of symptoms in type 1 diabetes model mice by alleviating the alloxan-derived generation of reactive oxygen species. Click here for the study

Please note that “electrolyzed reduced water” (ERW) and “hydrogen rich water” are just other names for ionized alkaline water which is produced by an electric water ionizer.

Change Your Water, Improve Your Eyesight?

Posted: May 14, 2015 by Christina Chambers

Woman drinking waterAccording to the Vision Council of America, approximately 75% of the adult population wears eyeglasses and/or contact lenses. While most are quick to blame genetics, acidity is a very common underlying problem.

In order to survive, our blood must remain slightly alkaline at all times. To do this, our bodies rely on an alkaline buffering system of minerals to draw from. But in this day and age of super size sodas and drive thrus, most of us are undernourished and overacidic.
So our bodies have to go to plan B in order to keep us alive and actually steal magnesium from our eyes and calcium from our bones in order to buffer the acidity from what we are eating, drinking, breathing in, and applying to our skin.

There is a clear (pun intended) correlation between today’s acidic lifestyle and the staggering rate of poor eyesight. In fact, one study of more than 4,000 people conducted in the Netherlands over a period of eight years identified the following: People who ate a diet rich in vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, and zinc had a 35% reduced risk of developing macular degeneration compared with people who ate an average diet. Those who ate diets with low levels of those nutrients had a 20% increased risk of disease.
But before you go reaching for carrots which are high in beta-carotene, know this: they also contain a lot of sugar and a low pH of about 5 (7 is neutral). So juicing a bunch of carrots with the hope that you will improve your eyesight may actually be counterproductive.
So what is an optically challenged person to do? The answer may be as simple as changing the type of water you drink.
Tap water is federally regulated to be slightly alkaline, but is full of harmful contaminants. Most bottled waters are acidic, expensive, and bad for the environment. Reverse osmosis water is also acidic, which means it can actually exacerbate the problem. What’s left? Ionized alkaline water from an electric water ionizer.
Ionized alkaline water uses the process of electrolysis to the minerals in your water more bioavailable which means that your body will absorb them more easily. It transforms ordinary tap water into fresh, filtered, alkaline water with a high pH, so that the acidity in your diet can be offset and your alkaline mineral supply can be restored, therefore protecting your eyes from further mineral loss and potentially even restoring vision.
According to Dr. Hidemitsu Hayashi of the Water Institute of Japan, “There is no substitute for a healthy balanced diet, especially rich in antioxidant materials such as vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and other foods that are good for us. However, these substances are not the best source of free electrons that can block the oxidation of healthy tissue by active oxygen. Water treated by electrolysis to increase its reduction potential is the best solution to the problem of providing a safe source of free electrons to block the oxidation of normal tissue by free oxygen radicals.”
Our own CEO, Nedalee Thomas, had her eyeglasses prescription reduced twice since switching to ionized alkaline water from a Chanson water ionizer. While we do not claim that our water will heal or improve everyone’s eyesight, we do know that alkalizing the body has many proven health benefits and other office staff who drink our water regularly have felt that they experienced vision improvement as well. Kangen Water vs. Chanson Water

Posted: March 25, 2015 by Christina Chambers

Wondering what the difference is between Kangen water and Chanson water? Both are brand names for ionized water produced by electric water ionizers.

In this video, our CEO touches on some of the differences between the two companies:

Here is a summary:

  • Chanson uses newer technology and offers more compact units
  • Chanson ionizers do not use calcium sulfite, which has been banned in several countries and may cause allergic reactions
  • Chanson is not a MLM (multi-level company) and therefore have a much lower price point, about half of a Kangen/Enagic

Is Your Garden pH Balanced?

Posted: May 3, 2013 by Christina Chambers

Have you tried cultivating your own blossoms only to have them die, or attempted to grow your own produce but lost it to hungry bugs?

Gardening is hard work, and the pH balance of the plant water and soil plays a large role in whether or not your efforts are successful.

Unlike humans, plants “breathe out” oxygen and “breathe in” carbon dioxide. While humans thrive on clean, ionized alkaline water, most plants like to drink ionized acid water, as shown in this gradeschool science experiment. Plus, most insects are repelled by ionized acidic water, making it an all natural pesticide.

Most rainwater has a pH of 5.6-5.8 due to the presence of carbonic acid (H2CO3). This means it is moderately acidic, but should not be confused with acid rain which hovers closer to 3.0 pH due to emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides mixing with the water molecules. Many commercial fertilizers are ammonia-based in order to increase soil acidity, but the water that comes out of your sprinklers and garden hose is likely neutral or slightly alkaline and filled with chemicals like chlorine, chloramines and fluoride which can be harmful to plants.

Since most people aren’t filtering their plant water or aware of which pH each plant prefers, we created the following chart as a guide to help your garden grow:

Embed this infographic on your own site

Copy and paste this code into your blog post or web page:

When it’s time to cut your blossoms to give away or display around the house, most cut flower stems should be watered with ionized alkaline water since, like us, they have been uprooted from their original life force and are slowly dying.

And when you’re ready to eat the produce you have grown, we recommend spritzing it with strong ionized acidic water to naturally kill any bacteria that has grown on them. Then you can soak the produce in 8.5 pH ionized alkaline water for 10 minutes directly before consuming in order to revive the produce to it’s freshly picked state. You’ll have the freshest, best-tasting organic produce on the block!

A Chanson water ionizer is capable of producing every pH level of water that you and your plants need to thrive.

Do pH Water Machines Really Work?

Posted: December 7, 2012 by Christina Chambers

As a prominent water ionizer distributor and manufacturer, of course we are going to tell you that yes, pH water machines really work.

But don’t just take our word for it. Read the dozens of customer testimonials, doctor and athlete endorsements, scientific studies and articles we have collected on the subject.

The Science Behind It

Water ionizers replicate what happens in nature when alkaline mineral-rich water flows over rocks, creating a negative charge, or -ORP (oxidation reduction potential). Through the process of electrolysis, water ionizers are able to separate H- ions and H+ ions, resulting in two streams of water – alkaline for drinking and acidic for eco-friendly skincare and cleaning purposes. They also microcluster the water, which makes the water drops smaller and easier to penetrate cells for deeper hydration and detoxification, and ionize the minerals which makes them more easily absorbed by the body.

Testing

pH water machines are not a scam or just hype. In fact, there are three very simple scientific ways to test the water to see that they produce water which is different from other waters.

1. pH testing can be done by adding reagent drops to the water and comparing the resulting color to a pH chart. Most ionizers come with a pH testing kit, which will allow you to see how alkaline, neutral or acid your tap water is as well as test the water made with an ionizer at different settings. A pH meter will also tell you the pH of a liquid and is used widely in the wine industry.

2. Another measurement that can be done on alkaline ionized water to prove its effectiveness is with an ORP meter. Alkaline liquids all have a -ORP, while acidic liquids like coffee, tea, soda and most bottled waters all have a +ORP. ORP represents the amount of oxidizers (aka free radicals) or antioxidants that a substance has. Anything with a +ORP is oxidizing to the body and accelerates aging, while alkaline ionized water has a -ORP and is rich in anti-oxidants.

3. Finally, a TDS meter can be used to measure the amount of Total Dissolved Solids in the water. Water found in nature always contains TDS, whereas reverse osmosis and bottled waters usually contain little or no TDS. Alkaline ionized water from a water ionizer contains an abundant amount of bioavailable alkaline minerals, or TDS.

Physical Results

Not interested in doing any scientific testing but want to see, feel and taste results?

When you first start drinking alkaline ionized water, the first thing you will notice is that the water has a silkier and smoother feel than regular water, and it won’t leave you feeling bloated or waterlogged. You’ll also need to make much more frequent trips to the restroom for the first few weeks–a sure sign that the water is detoxifying your cells. You are also likely to feel energized, unless you are particularly loaded with toxins in which case you might feel flu-like symptoms while your body detoxifies, followed by increased energy. And if you soak your produce with alkaline ionized water, you will notice fuller flavor.

But the benefits of a pH water machine don’t end with the alkaline ionized water for drinking. If you apply low pH acid water to your skin, you are likely to notice fewer lines and softer skin. And if you spray it on carpet or fabric stains, you’ll be able to see the amazing stain-fighting properties in action. In fact, there are many, many uses for low pH acid water that you are missing out on by not owning a water ionizer!

The Truth About Antacids

Posted: August 3, 2012 by Christina Chambers

Antacids are the #1 selling over-the-counter medication, and the 4th most prescribed prescription drug in the world today.

They provide a quick fix for common digestive problems like heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, and gas pain which are caused by excess acid in your system.

The science behind it

The reason that antacids like Tums, Alka-Seltzer, Mylanta, Rolaids and Maalox work is because they all contain alkaline minerals like calcium carbonate, magnesium hydroxide, and sodium bicarbonate. These alkaline minerals are then able to help neutralize the acid.

But just like how that adding alkaline minerals like baking soda and sea salt to your water to turn it alkaline is not a long-term solution because it can create health problems of its own, so can taking antacids like Tums on a regular basis.

When you ingest overly acidic foods, your body seeks to neutralize those acids naturally by pulling alkaline minerals from its internal reserve. This is because our blood must remain at 7.4 pH in order for us to live, and the body will do whatever it needs to in order to preserve that delicate pH balance.

When your alkaline reserves are low (as we age and continue to eat more and more unhealthy foods), it may have to resort to pulling alkaline minerals from places like our bones, heart and eyes, hence the rise in osteoporosis, heart failure and poor eyesight among middle-aged and elderly people.

The dangers of frequent antacid use

Blocking or reducing the production of your stomach acid by ingesting antacids can leave you undernourished, because your body may not be able to properly absorb the proteins and vitamins from your food.

When you are undernourished your immune system can break down, making you more susceptible to things like food poisoning, parasites, peptic ulcers and more. These can be caused by the fungi and bacteria in your food that would normally be killed by the stomach acid.

A better solution

When you follow an alkaline diet consisting of 80% alkaline foods and drink plenty of ionized alkaline water, your odds of experiencing common digestive problems decrease dramatically.

Think about it. When was the last time you experienced heartburn, bloating or gas pains? It most likely wasn’t after finishing off a plate of steamed veggies or a healthy salad. No, those issues usually arrive after you eat things like a burger and fries–unhealthy acidic foods our bodies have a hard time digesting.

Many people are confused about the effectiveness of ionized alkaline water, believing that stomach acid will render it useless. Dr. Robert O. Young explains, “Alkaline electron-rich water…does not trigger the release of sodium bicarbonate and thus does not cause the creation of the acid HCl, so it does not interfere with the alkalizing of the food. In fact alkaline electron-rich water with its high concentration of electrons helps the alkalizing of the food and also helps to neutralize the caustic acidic poisonous HCL, preventing the acidification of the blood and tissues.”

So rather than treat the symptoms of overacidity with an over-the-counter or prescription antacid which can cause further health issues, we recommend that you eat more alkaline foods and drink Chanson ionized alkaline water daily.
